Confirm how much space is required  As a ‘live’ 5  piece band with full drum kit, two guitarists, a bassist, a lead singer, a PA system with monitors and lighting rigs, we will require approximately 4m x 5m of floor space as well at least 2 x twin mains power sockets (preferably on separate circuits) close by the stage area.  For larger venues with in excess of around 300 guests, we will require more PA equipment and therefore a little more floor space.  We will typically have our PA speakers positioned either side and in front of us, with lighting stands either side and/or over the top of the performance area.

If you have plenty of room and the venue has a dedicated area in which to position the band, you should ask the venue if they prefer the band to arrive and set up prior to the meal or prior to guests arriving.

Dance floor  Check that your venue provides an adequately sized dance floor.  Locked Out will invariably get your audience up and dancing, so a decent sized dance floor is essential.  You should discuss this with the venue well in advance so that they can plan table layouts.

If your event involves a sit down meal and space is limited, the room is normally re-arranged after the meal to remove tables.  This is common practice and the venues will also use this time to lay down a dance floor in front of the band.  If you don’t do this you might need to think about the proximity of the speakers to the nearest table!
